Youth Unplugged is an emerging initiative dedicated to supporting the mental wellbeing of young people by helping them step away from the constant demands of the digital world and rediscover a deeper sense of connection with the living world around them.
Today's young people are growing up in an increasingly fast-paced, screen-centred society. Many spend more time connected to devices than to the natural environments that have shaped human wellbeing for thousands of years. While technology brings many benefits, we believe that many young people are also longing for something slower, quieter and more real. Youth Unplugged exists to create opportunities for young people to unplug from the digital noise and reconnect with the more-than-human world through meaningful experiences in nature. We believe that when young people experience a genuine relationship with the earth, they can begin to rediscover a sense of calm, belonging, wonder and connection that is often difficult to find in modern life.
This is not about rejecting technology or telling young people what they should or shouldn't do. It is about offering an alternative: spaces where they can breathe deeply, slow down, explore, play, notice, connect and remember that they are part of something much bigger than themselves. Our vision is to develop accessible, nature-based experiences that support emotional wellbeing, resilience and a renewed sense of belonging for young people who are struggling with their mental health.
We are currently seeking funding to bring this vision to life. As the project develops, we look forward to sharing more about the experiences, opportunities and partnerships that will make Youth Unplugged a reality. Together, we hope to help a generation rediscover that they don't simply live on the Earth—they belong to it.
